Japanese artists Shinji Ohmaki does the unthinkable; visualise the weight of the invisible air all around us. This awesome and strangely cuddly installation is made up from around 123 thousand nylon strings all hanging from the ceiling. Cut off at irregular lengths the threads create almost like some kind of landscape that you can walk through (take your shoes off, though), breathe through and maybe get lost in.
A while ago I tipped you guys off about an international art project by artists Flying Förtress, Honet, Sozyone and Craig “Krink” Costello. The idea was to give one of the towers in Berlin a sweet new colour. By now the project is in full effect, and Just (from the previous post) was there to photograph it once more. Check out his photos (or just the Turmkunst ones) and awe! Turmkunst :)
Above is KR’s work, two more photos after the jump! (more…)
L’Atlas struck once again, this time at the Oberbaumbruecke in Berlin, leaving his signature where, if it wasn’t for that bridge, might have been recognizable from outer space. It might have something to do with a group exhibition at Skalitzers Gallery (“Kiss the City”) where the Atlas shines together with Babou, Sun7 and Tanc. Just from ekosystem.org took some amaaazing pictures that are worth checking out, not to mention I just love Atlas’s style and ethics. I’ve included my 5 favourites after the jump, but you should know that there are lots more and lots better ones on the aforementioned blog. Via the Wooster Collective :) (more…)
Coming May 20th is the first sort of official “Everybody Draw Muhammed” day. This particular Muhammed was the sacred prophet that is credited for spreading much of the Qu’ran, and depicting his image is forbidden in Muslim law. This may not appear to be in perfect harmony with this newly invented thematic day. Draw Muhammed Day is actually not a protest against Islam, but an act of solidity with the masterminds behind Southpark, who received death threats because of the Muhammed episode. With the threat came a picture of dutch filmmaker Theo van Gogh, who was (quite brutally) slain on the streets of Amsterdam after making a film about abuse in Islam. Also, Draw Muhammed Day is a celebration of freedom of thought and speech, which is being compromised more and more by religious figures and long toes. No thought, word, drawing or movie is reason for violence (let alone terrorism).
The above picture is the poster/cartoon that sparked the “Draw Muhammed Day” viral. After the jump the famous cartoon by Kurt Westergaard, and an eye witness photo of the diseased Theo van Gogh (fortunately not so gory and low-resolution :P) (more…)
A never-published Vandivert photograph, illustrating a common practice of soldiers through the centuries: scrawling graffiti to honor fallen comrades, insult the vanquished, or simply announce, I was here. I survived. “Columns at entrance into Chancellery gardens,” wrote Vandivert of this eerie scene, “showing bomb and artillery wreckage and names of Russians who fell in fighting there.” – William Vandivert, Berlin, 1945
McBess (alias of Matthieu Bessudo) got an awesome style down. 2 More artworks after the jump, but his portfolio is a much better place to check everything out. Peace! (more…)
“Ephemicropolis”, by Peter Root, is just damn cool. Check out the (fast forwarded) video of this guy arranging stacks of staples hours on end after the jump :) (more…)
The Tel Aviv police department released a video of a bizarre astronomical rarity. This meteor fell all the way from deep space right onto Tel Aviv Beach, where some guy had his cell phone ready to film it as it lay simmering on the shells.
I came across this “speedpainting” of what it would look like if Scarlett Johansson and Marilyn Monroe successfully reproduced and had a girl together, waited 20, 25some years and fed her some make-up. But no seriously, Scarlett Monroe is an awesome portrait of the fictional combination of the world’s most classic beauty’s, as a fun project by Dan Luvisi, on deviantArt better known as adonihs. The man is a professional and he’s got a portfolio to show for it. Hats off! Bonus image for the Kick-Ass campaign after the jump, also by Luvisi. (more…)
Benedict Radcliffe made this wireframe of Nike’s epic Air Max ‘91 shoe for the release of Dizzy Rascal’s interpretation of the aforementioned footwear. Looks a bit weird on a photo, as if it’s a computer generated wireframe pasted over a photo. However, I have proof (three photos) that this is in fact very real, after the jump :) (more…)
Here, have some spectaculair photos of the eruption of the Eyafallajökull volcano on Iceland last week! Found on SwissEduc.ch, five more photos stolen from there after the jump :) (more…)
Martine Johanna from Amsterdam (the Netherlands, you nitwits) got an awesome style down, depicting loads and loads of everyone’s favourite subject, girls, and more on paper, surfboards, walls and probably just about anything you pay her for ;) Check out her website and portfolio for an awesome view into her artwork. It is sometimes sexual and sometimes personal, great combo! Haha. I said it before; art chicks are WIN! Via City of Skies. Three more works of art after the jump! (more…)
This is NASA featuring Kool Keith and Tom Waits with the song “Spacious Thoughts” off their new album “The Spirit Of Apollo“. Video reminds me of that Gnarls Barkley one (“Crazy” or something), and this beat and weird grunting is awesome. Good combo if you ask me. Found it on Popwhore :)
