Bittersweet Sarcasm from ChrisTodd Lamb, the guy who calls himself Chris in the execution of his idea, plays a sweet subtile pun at who knows what. Make of it what you will, I found his notes that he apparantly posts all over New York City very entertaining. More notes here! Filed under Street Art, because it’s intended for the people that walk there.
TurmKunst CheckupA while ago I tipped you guys off about an international art project by artists Flying Förtress, Honet, Sozyone and Craig “Krink” Costello. The idea was to give one of the towers in Berlin a sweet new colour. By now the project is in full effect, and Just (from the previous post) was there to photograph it once more. Check out his photos (or just the Turmkunst ones) and awe! Turmkunst :) Above is KR’s work, two more photos after the jump! (more…)
The Coming and Going of AtlasL’Atlas struck once again, this time at the Oberbaumbruecke in Berlin, leaving his signature where, if it wasn’t for that bridge, might have been recognizable from outer space. It might have something to do with a group exhibition at Skalitzers Gallery (“Kiss the City”) where the Atlas shines together with Babou, Sun7 and Tanc. Just from ekosystem.org took some amaaazing pictures that are worth checking out, not to mention I just love Atlas’s style and ethics. I’ve included my 5 favourites after the jump, but you should know that there are lots more and lots better ones on the aforementioned blog. Via the Wooster Collective :) (more…)
the Village that was an Optical IllusionFelice Varini certainly is an ambitious kind of artist and probably a very charismatic figure too, getting a whole village to agree on having circles painted on their houses. After projecting these rings onto the village they were applied to the houses, so that they appear like they are in the above panorama, giving the village a flat, postcardy appearance to it. I imagine it’s a very special sight. Ladies and gentlemen, put your hands together for Felice and the town of Vercorin, Switzerland, for making the project “Cercle et suite d’éclats” a fact :) You’ll find a panorama, and two close up pictures from another perspective after the jump. I ofcourse copied them from the site. (more…)
How Banksy’s Movie Came To BeFive minutes really worth watching if you’re even vaguely interested in street art. This trailer for Exit Through The Gift Shop has some epic moments and a rrrrreally clever paper dog that stands up on ventilation shafts. Thierry Guetta, you’ll see him in the movie, seems like an interesting character to me, he even has his own Wiki page, but not so much ofcourse as the conceiving artist, Banksy :P Oh, and the video, Prefuse tipped me off about it
Nalden Interviews ShoeSome guy called Nalden (?) got himself an interview with Niels “Shoe” Meulman, the inventor of calligraffiti. Shoe designs letters for a living :) It’s kinda interesting to see Shoe in his home, at work in his studio, and eventually also at work out on the streets. Check it out!
Turm Kunst“Turmkunst” they call it, the german words for “tower” and “art”. Honet (France), Flying Förtress (Germany), Craig “KR” Costello (US&A) and Sozyone (Spain) will be painting the outsides of this former restaurant. I’m not sure if I think the building is butt-ugly or retrofuturistic cool (some pictures of it from a worms eye view are quite cool), but I am quite certain that it could use a little touch-up. After the damage has been done, 14 international artists will exhibit their work there. Work starts on April 4th, exhibition May 15th. If I have money I might just make the trip. God living in Europe is awesome! The video at the top of this post just about says it all, but if you could always check out their site or Vimeo profile for more info and video. I’ve included a clear pic of the Bierpinsel after the (more…)
The People Shall GovernSeen in Johannesburg (Sout Africa, again), put there by FAITH47. Very nice work!
The DecapitatorNobody is safe from the Decapitator. You can not hide. All you can do is make sure your photo isn’t taken, and you’ll be relatively safe. A video of the-making-of after the jump, including some more pics from the guy’s Flickr stream :) (more…)
Crystals And LasersThis is Matt W. Moore painting one of the most funkalicious murals, who knew triangles could ever be so exciting :D This particular piece is across the street from Since Gallery in Paris, France. Matt casually mentions it on his blog, from what I understand this was on the wall of an school on a public street. It’s part of a bigger whole, namely Matt’s very own solo exhibition at Since.
The adress, on a sidenote, is 211 rue Saint-Maur, going from Feb 5th till March 3rd 2010. Funky poster after the (more…)
Crazy Ass Pixaçao
Revok saw it too. Pixaçao is the name, graffiti of the poor, graffiti from the streets. They don’t even pretend it to be “street art”, this is just terror and they’re proud of it. The common handwriting is quite distinctive though… Six more pixaçao shots after the (more…)
Craig Costello @ StilwerkIn a similar style to painting the Krink Mini, mister Craig “KR” Costello fucks up the Stilwerk space in Hamburg, which is some kind of institute dedicated to design and everything that’s hip. Craig is the originator of my favourite make of markers, Krink, so I guess he has a right to spill precious paint like that. The video isn’t as flashy as the Mini one, but the result is nice. Let’s just hope they don’t play this out too much because then I’ll not be able to do it anymore :)

Taki 183
Click here to read this interview! The guy who allegedly started it all, TAKI 183, talks to ilovegraffiti.de about what was on his mind when he was the first to spraypaint tags all over his city New York. Interesting insights from a legend :) Via REVOK
Robbo & Robbo vs. Banksy vs. Robbo
It all started with the approximately 24 year old piece on Regent Canal in Camden, London. Banksy graffiti’d over Robbo’s antique and Robbo was offended. Consequently, Robbo painted right on top of Banksy’s 3 day old piece, repaying B. in kin. But having the final say wasn’t good enough for “King Robbo” after having his/her/it’s 24 year old piece finally painted over. Hence the above image. I’ve included pictures of the old Robbo piece, Banksy’s rejuvenation of it and Robbo’s reply after the jump, and a photo of what the above pic originally was. (more…)
Little Sol
She goes under the alias Solveig, this little girl from Brighton, UK, and already started a career in street art and other graphic design. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, this 11 year old is one of the most seasoned among her weight class, as proven by her incriminating Flickr stream. Her style is called “anti” or “ill” by some, but I’d rather call it what it is; disturbingly cheerful. Aside from the fact that she draws mario characters that are twice her age, mad props for being featured in Graphotism #45 and getting a dude to let you tattoo his arm :)
What Up GangstarsJe vous presenté, le video Jay Louis, “What Up Gangstars”. C’est trop fresh! Supacool! Worth checking out anyway! I’m not sure what it is besides a fresh video of casual graffiti shit and a french talking muppet, but according to what’s on Jay’s vimeo profile (and his very french website) there’s been an official launch party for the guy’s blog and what not. The debut you see above features Montreal’s own Zek, from the 156 crew.
