Emmy’s Neck
This is not a photo! Most amazing painting I’ve ever seen, by Johannes Wessmark from Karlstad, Sweden, master of coloured pencil. Luckily there’s more where that came from, but dang, Johannes really hit the nail on it’s head with this one. Unfortunately in low resolution only, but I’ve made it my wallpaper regardless (and I don’t do that very often)
Oscar CiutatAs I was browsing NotCot the photo above in particular really struck me. It is from a photographic series “Caged” by Oscar Ciutat about zoo animals.
The Coming and Going of AtlasL’Atlas struck once again, this time at the Oberbaumbruecke in Berlin, leaving his signature where, if it wasn’t for that bridge, might have been recognizable from outer space. It might have something to do with a group exhibition at Skalitzers Gallery (“Kiss the City”) where the Atlas shines together with Babou, Sun7 and Tanc. Just from ekosystem.org took some amaaazing pictures that are worth checking out, not to mention I just love Atlas’s style and ethics. I’ve included my 5 favourites after the jump, but you should know that there are lots more and lots better ones on the aforementioned blog. Via the Wooster Collective :) (more…)
I was hereA never-published Vandivert photograph, illustrating a common practice of soldiers through the centuries: scrawling graffiti to honor fallen comrades, insult the vanquished, or simply announce, I was here. I survived. “Columns at entrance into Chancellery gardens,” wrote Vandivert of this eerie scene, “showing bomb and artillery wreckage and names of Russians who fell in fighting there.” – William Vandivert, Berlin, 1945
The Eyafallajökull EruptionHere, have some spectaculair photos of the eruption of the Eyafallajökull volcano on Iceland last week! Found on SwissEduc.ch, five more photos stolen from there after the jump :) (more…)
City of ShadowsCool! One of the pictures from the series “City of Shadows” by Alexey Titarenko :)
David Maisel Sees All.. from the window of his plan/helicopter/rocket or a really really tall and portable building. Anyway. These aerial photographs by David Maisel are supercool. They’re so beautiful one would almost not recognise them as aerials if you didn’t know better. But not only do they look pretty, they are also themed around human intervention with nature and the funny habit we have of destroying things we love. Like nature and fresh air. Check out the post on 2fotos.blogspot.com where I originally found these photos, or the guy’s website, for dozens upon dozens more, or hit the jump for three of my other favourites :) (more…)
Chicks With GunsChicks with guns, yeah, but maybe a little bit less sexually available to you as you might hope. These are real pictures from girls on duty in the Israeli army. Rachel Papo, did service in the late 80’s herself for two years, went back to photograph this phenomenon. All “models” are at least 18 years of age. 5 Handpicked favourites after the jump! Also, I’ve filed this under “Women” too because I know how much of the american population gets a hard-on from guns. (more…)
Kevin van Aelst
Give a science freak a camera and a dutch name, and voila genius pictures. Check out these snapshots taken by the mastermind Kevin van Aelst. Combining everyday materials and food with topics of science, anatomy, mathematical drawings and whatnot, this man makes for a couple of more than interesting photos. I had a great time checking out his gallery, I hope you will too. Three more of my favourite science photos after the jump :) Thanks to TWBE for the update (more…)
Backflashes, Ruedione
As the creating photographer “ruedione” has to say about the whole: the intention was to visualize the “bombing feeling” that many writers worldwide experience every day…or better night. to achieve this goal i was traveling worldwide to meet writers and join them on their nightly adventures. many years ago, this feeling/this thrill kept as well myself going out at night and when i look back, i can say that this movement was probably one of the strongest influences in my life. for more images check www.backflashes.com
